Monthly Clusters

Veyil Foundation  has monthly get together programmes in various economically challenged areas such as tribal settlements and slums. These events are to study and resolve the challenges they face. Currently the sustainability programmes are focusing on giving educational support to children, ensuring food safety to children and senior citizens. Job oriented training is provided to youth. These programmes include environmental activities, art workshops and legal awareness.

Children’s Camp

Veyil Foundation  organizes two children’s camp every year. One at the time of Onam, the thanks giving festival of Kerala and the other during the summer vacation.  The summer camp is a comparatively larger programme with respect to the number of children participating, number of days and volunteers.

We have many children from tribal and slum areas who dropout from school and are demotivated. Cocoon’s mission is to reduce the dropout rate to zero in these areas. Our educational camps are based on fun, creation and coliving.

Rural Development

Building libraries, study centers, toilets and sanitation areas have been our main goals in rural development section. Veyil Foundation  has attached a home farming group with food safety programme and rural development. School children are educated and supported to do micro farming in homes and setup a barter market where they can exchange crops. This self-supporting movement has been taken over by enthusiastic adults in some areas which has resulted in a leap towards self-sufficiency and balanced eating habits.

Street Walk

Street walk is a very simple concept as the name indicates. Assigned volunteers randomly walk on streets to find people living there. They share new clothes, medical care and food. It has been a successful movement during strikes and harthals where no hotels or restaurants are opened and becomes difficult to find food at right time. Veyil Foundation  has its street walk in Kerala, Tamilnadu, Karnataka  and Andhra pradesh. We have given special consideration to street walk during natural calamities such as Chennai flood series, Kerala flood disaster and Covid 19 pandemic.

Food Safety

The food safety programmes started by providing lunch to people living in streets.Later it was expanded to giving 10kg rice and essential pulses to poor families in different villages in Kerala. Orphanages, old age homes and psychiatric rehabilitation centers are also added to the programme.

As the second level of the programme Veyil Foundation  has started micro farming to ensure the production of healthy vegetables. In 2022 we are aiming on setting micro poultry farming for 300 families to ensure sustainab ility.

Educational Support

Our primary aim is to empower the under privileged and economically backward areas by giving proper educational support to children. Poverty, unemployment, discrimination and similar social issues can be stopped only by education.  There is a model evening school supported by Veyil Foundation  in Menambakkam Slum and Narikurava Tribe in Chennai.  In Palakkad, Eravalar’s village is being educationally supported by Veyil Foundation  where nearly 50 children are included in the programme. Veyil Foundation  has conducted educational camps in Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kochi. Study materials are regularly given to the children associated with Veyil.

Medical Camp

The most successful and effective medical camps were during the 2018 Kerala flood. Thousands of people from flood stricken areas have experienced the care of Veyil Foundation  team. Those medical camps were in association with hospitals, clubs and social activity partners. Veyil Foundation  has a database of active health volunteers and many of them participated in Covid 19 prevention activities. We provide medical support to more than 120 psychiatric patients in Palakkad, Kochi and Mangalore as combined effort with rehabilitation centers.

Disaster Relief

The motivational story behind the formation of Veyil Foundation  is related with 2016 Nepal earthquake. The founding members of Veyil Foundation  has personally participated in relief works during the time of disaster. The 34 days long relief work was followed by the same kind of relief work in Chennai flood and Manipur Earthquake. Veyil Foundation coordinated rural area based relief works during the remarkable 2018 Kerala flood. Veyil Foundation  has more than 100 trained disaster management volunteers.

Old Age Care

The old age care programmes include the people in streets, left alone in homes and those living in  institutions. Veyil Foundation’s street walk programme is meant for giving old aged people proper clothing and sanitation. Those found in need of medical attention are taken to hospitals and our volunteers initiate by standing. Veyil Foundation  is associated with rehabilitation centers in Kochi, Palakkad and Mangalore to accommodate needy people. While the associate institutes rehabilitate, Veyil Foundation  provides food, medicine and essentials.

Community Kitchen

The concept of community kitchen was implemented at the time of Chennai flood in 2016. It repeated in Kerala flood and Covid 19 pandemic. However, not only at the time of disasters, our social programmes depend on community kitchens where all volunteers, guests and participants dine together. The community kitchen is a glorious space of togetherness and equality. Community kitchens are found more effective at the time of camps and off seasons which results in unemployment in rural villages depending on agricultural economy. As an experiment, we have initiated community farming to produce self-sufficient food supplies.
